During the three weeks, when we mourn our exile from Eretz Yisrael and the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash, we do not perform any weddings. Surprisingly, Parshas Matos, which is almost always read during the first week of Bain HaMitzarim, concludes with both, an inheritance in Eretz Yisrael, and a marriage; the inheritance of the daughters of Tzelafchad in Eretz Yisrael is discussed as is their marriage.

The Three Weeks is a time of mourning, but the Shabbosim of the Three Weeks are not. Tzaddikim have interpreted the words in Lecha Dodi, רב לך שבת בעמק הבכה, which literally translates as a consolation to Yerushalayim, “You have sat in the valley of tears for long enough,” to mean, “Great are the Shabbosim of the Three Weeks, the valley of tears.”

When Mashiach will come, the Three Weeks will be a time of rejoicing. They will be the most elevated period in the year. On Shabbos, the day which is מעין עולם הבא, a foretaste of a World-to-Come, we can connect to the future and experience the Three Weeks for what they really are: a time for marriages and connection to Eretz Yisrael.
